The CBS Students organised with the assistance their teacher Carol Merrick a project to promote cycling in Charleville called the Green Mile
Mission of the Green Mile Network
The Green Mile Network is a an alliance of three groups, CBS Green Mile Initiative (the founding element), St. Joseph's Foundation and Charleville (town) Green Mile.
Its mission is to create facilities for wheel chair users, walkers and cyclists in the town of Charleville and surrounding area.
Aims
To make Charleville more accessible for wheelchair users
To make Charleville safer for walkers and ensure they have priority
To create cycling facilities and make it safer to cycle
Goals
To get a lift installed at Charleville Railways Station
To get a pedestrian crossing from the town car park to the town park
To get a cycle route created from Charleville Train station taking in bus stops to link into the Kilmallock Cycle Hub
To make cycle and walking more accessible for school children ie address issues that are stopping children walking and cycling
Objectives
1) To have sent a petition to the Minister of Education regarding the weight of School Bags. by ?
2) To meet with Iarnród Éireann to discuss the installation of lifts at Charleville Station by ?

1) Review of last year, structure of organisation, and mission and objectives of group.
2) Plans for next year
a) Work on create another pilot route proposed to promote cycle route from Lidl Warehouse, Ballyhea via Meat Factor to Charleville
b) Create safety signage to nearby school warning of times children likely to be on bikes
c) Create a critical mass to promote cycling – flash mob
d) Run a cycle maintenance course
e) Signpost for route
f) Put up notices in other languages
g) Give talks to children in schools
h) Organise community cycles (using routes proposed by Josh Riordan & Cillian Bowles), one to tie in with Charleville 350, to run three or four in the year.
i) To get a celebrity do a cycle in Community Cycling in Charleville (suggested to use Diarmuid Gavin as he is into cycling and also going to be in the town)
j) To put in for a grant towards signage in the town park, to create a health walkway when the county council create the foot path round the perimeter.
k) Look about the creation of more cycle racks in town
Other notes:
We will have to run at least one fundraising event to pay for implementation of some of the ideas above.
