Facilities to Miminise Waste in Charleville include:

Bottle, Can and clothes banks at LIdl on Limerick Road

St. Vincent de Paul (good quality toys, books, and clean clothes)

Irish Heart Foundation (as per St. Vincents)

Map marking Recycling Centre in Kilmallock

Old medicines can be taken into any chemists

Get shoes repaired (there isn't anywhere in Charleville that repairs shoes presently)

House hold Batteries can be taken to Lidl shop and Paul O'Sheas

Newspapers can be put into the blue recycling bin, however, paper is quite heavy and there is a question mark whether more damage is not done by transporting paper round to get it recycled than using it at source.  Paper can be burn (please ensure there is no plastic in paper prior to burning), it can be put into compost, used as a mulch and when shredded it can be used as animal bedding.

Organic waste can be composted see compost page.  Apparently we buy on average € 700 per annum food that gets thrown out , including half of all salad leafs bought.

Ink cartridges can be reused, there was a collection point in the Oriel on Charleville Main Street.

Mobile telephones were being collected by a charity for reuse at Vodafone Mobile Shop opposite the old ESB building at the end of Charleville.

The following is taken from a Limerick City Leaflet which can also be down loaded below:

When shopping....

(use a shopping list created by checking stock, menus, be cautious of special deals, and beware of expire dates)

1. Buy loose fruit and vegetables

2. Buy products with less packaging

3. Weigh vegetables at the counter instead of taking lots of bags

   4. Weigh vegetables individually and put them all in the one bag

5. Buy what you need – buy more and you will only throw it out!

 In your kitchen…

 In the household…

1. Use reusable nappies

When shopping.... Bring it back or leave behind...

   1. Compost turns spoil to spoil

   2. Remember back yard burning or burning in your grate is not waste minimisation

 1. Leave newspaper supplements you are not going to read in the shop.
